PERIOD 1 ONLY

Click HERE to access your Unit 4 words.  In typing it, I noticed I made a mistake (for those of you who actually wrote it out from the flipchart) - alacrity is a noun, so make the change!

Love you!  Have your notecards ready, and please bring the others with you too :)

Grades & Such

Hi, all!  Grades will not be complete until noon Friday, so please do not post or email (or text) us about your grades.  You can see us on Monday, and we'll rectify any issues then.  We need the weekend to relax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're one or two percent away from the next highest grade, please don't ask us to change it.  Sadly, there has to be a cut-off somewhere, and if you did not make it, you did not make it...period.  You forget that 1% is worth of a nice chunk of points...not one or two.  Believe us when we say: if grades were about love, you ALL would have an A.  Unfortunately, it's not - it's a reflection of your work, and we will not cheat or compromise just to make you happy.

FOR THE NEW QUARTER:  We will NOT accept late work any longer.    If your work is late, it's a zero.  If you have an absence, you have two days to get an admit AND submit it with your make-up work.  Otherwise, we will not take it, and it will be a ZERO.  This also includes tardies to class (excused or unexcused); late work is a ZERO.  The same goes for school related trips - all work and tests MUST be completed BEFORE you attend your trip.

Furthermore, any grade change forms MUST be submitted within a week that the grade is given/entered.   From here on out, check your grades daily, and be sure to submit your grade change forms with the proper documentation.

To reiterate what's in the syllabus - if you are caught cheating, whether it's one question or the whole assignment/assessment, you will receive a ZERO for the assignment.  Cheating on a project/test will result in an F in conduct and a 3 in effort.  Cheating on HW or the like, will result in an automatic C in conduct and 2 in effort.  It is written in the syllabus you and parents signed at the beginning of the year, so review it one more time and BE SURE you understand the ramifications of cheating/lying.

OK, love you.

Sophomores & Juniors EC

We still need 33 cans of tennis balls.  You can bring in one or two cans for extra credit if you have not already.  We would need them by 7:20 a.m. on Thursday for it to apply to this report card.

LOVE YOU!

Juniors Extra Credit

If you can come by during lunch today and tomorrow to help us with our Dalmation costume-making, we will give you extra credit for THIS quarter.  Bring your lunch; you can eat in our room :)

SMILE and LOVE YOU!

HW, Homework, and AHEAD

Happy Saturday!  We miss you already!

Easy "A" Opportunity - Share your favorite Breaking Dawn or Scarlet Letter quote thus far.  Explain why you like it!  Remember, GPS (grammar, punctuation, spelling) counts for your blog posts!  Be sure to leave comments under the correct title.

Reading Plus - For ALL CLASSES, remember that we check your two sessions of Reading Plus on Tuesdays.  If you have not been doing your sessions, make up your missed sessions this weekend, and we will take away the zeros (though it will be a late grade).

Word of the Day - Our due date for your Words of the Day activity has been moved to Thursdays and Fridays.  If there's no school on those days, you will  submit your reading chart the class period before (e.g., there is no school this Friday, so our 2/4/6 students will submit it on Wednesday).  This week, we're having you do a chart on the connections you make between the article and what you've already read, observed, and experienced.  CLICK HERE TO ACCESS IT!

Vocabulary - Our English Language classes (periods 2, 5, and 6), you need to write your Unit 4 words, the parts of speech, definition and pronunciation into your journal.  All of that information is to the right.  Click on the link in your EL column: "EL Vocab Unit 4."   Our General Paper classes (periods 3 & 4), you already have your Unit 4 words in your journals (we hope),  but you need to study them.  You will have your test this Thursday and Friday, but you will need to know them for class on Monday and Tuesday :)

Homecoming - If you dress up for Homecoming (and it has to be obvious you did), stop by our room before school or between classes to get credit.  We will have checklists set up outside.  Do NOT disrupt our classes; it's only before or between classes!  The dress-up calendar link is above the Breaking Dawn movie trailer.

We'll see some of you on Sunday.  Everyone else, see you Monday or Tuesday!  LOVE YOU! :)

WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK & WEEKEND - UPDATED

Hola!  Here is what's happening this week on the RoGo Racetrack:

Vocab Tests - Periods 3 & 4, yours is this week (Thursday and Friday).  Periods 2, 5, and 6, yours is Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Study all three units for Monday and Tuesday, as you will have a fun activity to review all the words.   ALL CLASSES, you have a vocab review under your section on the right-hand side of the blog.   You can use the flashcards, play the matching or concentration games to review the words and their meanings; however, the word search will help with your spelling :)  (Periods 3 & 4, we posted 4th period's vocabulary graphics for you to review as well.)

ReadingsPeriod 3, you have to read Chapters 16-18 for tomorrow; Period 4, you don't have any reading for Friday (as indicated on the calendar).  Period 5, you have to read the first half of your SL chapters; Period 2, you should have been finished already; Period 6, you should be reading the second half of your chapters.

Assignments - Periods 3 & 4, your HW for Monday or Tuesday is to write down the new vocab words in your vocab journals.  The link is to the right :) Periods 2 and 6, you will be creating your own "scarlet letter."  Remember when we had you think about what you're most ashamed?  Well, you're going to create a label (about the size of a sheet of paper) with that letter to wear on your shirt Friday.  Decorate it accordingly, and if you want to convert your choice into Spanish and use a Spanish letter, you can.  You will wear your letter all day, and you reflect about this experience before you step into school (create a hypothesis), as well as how your day went and how you were treated.  How you apply it to your shirt is up to you. You can hang it around your neck with yarn or string, or you can pin it to your shirt.  Period 5, you will do this for Monday :)

ALL CLASSES: Remember your Reading Plus and your Words of the Day :)

All Periods - HW

All Classes:  You need to have the Words of the Day in your journals, as well as the synthesis chart on ONE article from the this week (pick any word/article, but we're doing the top graphic organizer).  This is due Monday or Tuesday, depending on when we have you.

English Language:   Remember to print out the chapter we assigned you for The Scarlet Letter (the link is in your column on the right side) and bring it with you to class.  You also need to do test corrections for Vocab Test #2 (five times each for questions; ten times for spelling).  Caution: If you forgot to take home your test, you need to pick it up.  Period 5, yours is due tomorrow; Periods 2 & 6, yours is due on Monday.

General Paper: There is a TON to do, and we're sorry.  Pace yourself!  Your RPA for Reading Plus should be done!  Do your two sessions.  We will check them on Tuesday.  Your "bookmark" for Breaking Dawn should be done, and we will be discussing Chapters 14 & 15 when we see you again. BE READY!   You also need to do test corrections for Vocab Test #2 (five times each for questions; ten times for spelling).  Caution: If you forgot to take home your test, you need to pick it up.   One more thing - should you have time (yeah, right), try and check out Myth Busters for a pun review!

All Classes...AGAIN:   We love you!!!!!!  We'll miss you this weekend.

Thinking Skills and English Language Classes

Period 1: Don't forget to bring your vocab flashcards everyday.  They should include ALL units.  Study your words for a fun activity on Tuesday (if you don't know the words, it will be hard to play).

In addition, Ms. Gonzalez needs you to sign up for the Pearson site if you haven't already.  The site is PearsonMyLab.com, and the Course ID is mdc04579.

JUNIORS - if you are taking the PSAT, and you don't have free or reduced lunch, you need to bring in your $14 ASAP!  There is a waiting list, and I cannot hold your spot any longer!

Periods 2, 5, and 6:  First, you DO NOT have to bring in book money.  We changed our minds about our readings.  Please save your money for November because we plan to read Their Eyes Were Watching God right before (or after) Christmas break.

Now for your HW! (Oh, joy! LOL!) This HW is due Wednesday (period 5) or Thursday (periods 2 & 6).  You're going to access your Unit 3 Vocab HERE!  Write the words out in your journals as it is in that document (that includes the POS, def, pronunciation, and chapter number).  Yes, the words are also to the right, but I want you to use the link in this post.  The link on the right is missing some of the information because the words aren't exporting properly; you will use it only for the games for review.  I guess the computer is tired too!!!

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and Wednesday!  Love and miss you!  Night-night :)
